Botswana is situated at the southern part of central Africa with a total area of 581,730sq km. The Land Boundaries stretches to nearly 4,013 km and the costal lines do not exist as the country is locked by land. Botswana is surrounded by Namibia, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Botswana is divided into 10 provinces Chobe, Central,Kgatleng, SouthEast, Ngamiland, NorthEast, Kweneng,Ghanzi,Kgalagadi, Southern.

About twenty years ago Botswana economy was considered to be the 20th poorest nation in the world. But today the story is different. Botswana is a rich non-oil producing country in Africa. The economic progress since independence has been one of the few success stories of the African continent. It has one of the world's highest economic growth rates since independence in 1966. With fiscal discipline and sound management, Botswana has transformed itself from being one of the poorest countries in the world to a country with a per capita GDP of $13,300 in 2008.

The country’s national development plan emphasizes on self-reliance as a foundational principle of government policy. To achieve the goal of national economic development, Botswana has maintained a strong balance of payments and foreign exchange reserve position.

Export earnings and expansion has been majorly fueled by the diamond mining industry. It accounts for almost 2/3rds of the GDP and 70 to 80% of the export earnings. Other key sectors are tourism, financial services, subsistence farming and cattle raising.
